when i started this project last year, "ai music" had barely entered the conversation. at the time of this writing, a song called "Rubberz" by Fenix Flexin, which was entirely generated by ai, sits at number 79 on the billboard hot 100. there's a saying that comes to mind- play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

i didn't dream up Buying Fireworks in Indiana so i could play stupid games. ai music is already everywhere, and we're not rioting in the streets, so, to me, right now, the game is looking pretty stupid.

this doesn't mean i love music any less, and in fact, i think i've found a way to love it even more. i figured out how to worship at an altar i actually believe in. amidst our onward charge toward cultural dystopia, i've decided to lean on physical media by interacting directly with the records i love, and i've decided to share it.

here's what this means for this project:

BUYFI SELECTS has changed. i love music, i discover a lot of it, and although i love sharing it, doing anything even vaguely adjacent to "music journalism" was never my intent. so, i'm curating and sharing music in a language i understand far better- mixing records.

i just dropped the first installment of the new BUYFI SELECTS, and it's a 96 minute all vinyl dj set.

all this to say: i'm Buying Fireworks in Indiana, an artist, producer, and dj, so i'm going to spend my time actually being those things.
