NOVEMBER 10 2025 SELECTIONS
If we've spent any time together in the last 627 days, there's a decent chance I told you about, nay, aggressively insisted you immediately listen to a rapidly emerging artist from Portugal. The reason I'm able to cite the exact number of days has to due with the monumental discoveries I made, the incredible meal I had hours before making them, and the beautiful, deeply misunderstood city in which I made them.
The city was San Pedro Sula, Honduras. The meal was carne asada, served sizzling atop a pile of rice, beans, and french fries, which Rachel and I enjoyed with Allan and Allice, two locals we met on Couchsurfing. For those who don't know, yes, CS still exists, it is still a shining example of how social media can be deeply beautiful if you engage with it intentionally, I've been a proud couchsurfer for 13+ years, and through this platform I've had more inspiring experiences of connectivity than I can count. I've mentioned it here before and I'll mention it again. Try it out, seriously. Although I recommend doing so, it's not necessary to actually surf couches. A totally normal way to use the platform goes as follows-

So, there is, unexpectedly, selection #1? Fear not, the actual rec is coming, but also, use Couchsurfing. Moving on.
As mentioned in my message to Allan, Rachel and I stayed in a hotel–not just any hotel, but a very tall one, which brings me to the first monumental discovery that led me to imprint the date of that fateful evening. Our room looked out over a vast expanse of urban sprawl, but one light of shimmering commerce shined bright, so bright that we had to close our curtains to dampen the glow. The light came from the all-seeing eyes of a megalithic mouse head, the place of commerce was none other than Chuck E. Cheese. Late into the humid Honduran night, I stared out over San Pedro Sula and deep into the gaze of this uncanny valley of a creature, and, as I do, I turned to Wikipedia. I'll spare you the 3,000 interesting details (read the Chuck E. Cheese Wikipedia page, there's a factoid there for everyone) and get right to Monumental Discovery #1: did you know that Jaret Reddick, vocalist and guitarist of Bowling For Soup, is the voice actor behind Mr. E. Cheese himself? He's had the gig since 2012, or, in other words, he was hired right around the time I started Couchsurfing. If, for some reason, you don't find this revelation monumental, just toss it in your back pocket and deploy it at the next social function you attend–I guarantee you'll be blasting "1985" on the bluetooth, speculating on the pros and cons of "ball pits," and will be considered the life of the party in no time.
